TAAPMA and CIPET organised Workshop on “Benchmarking Study to Assess Technology Gaps in Plastics and Polymer Sectors” at Hyderabad
The Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET), in collaboration with Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), Department of Industries, Government of Telangana, organised a one day workshop on “Benchmarking Study to Assess Technology Gaps in Plastics and Polymer Sectors” under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. The event was held on 27.06.2025 from 02.00 PM to 08.00 PM at CIPET, Cherlapally.
The objective of the event was to assess the current status of technology adoption in Plastics and Polymer sectors and identify key areas of intervention to enhance competitiveness, innovation and sustainable growth of MSMEs in Telangana.
The workshop was graced by the Chief Guest Shri Rajkumar Ohatkar, Additional Director, Industries; The event was enhanced by the presence of Shri Madhukar Babu, Joint Director, Industries; Shri Narendra Baldwa, President, Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA) and Shri B Ravi, Principal Director, CIPET.
In his inaugural address, Shri Rajkumar Ohatkar, Additional Director, Industries, Government of Telangana encouraged the stakeholders to adopt clean and smart production technologies and align their approach with the broader agenda of sustainable and innovation-led industrial development of the State. He also emphasised the importance of applied research and collaborative ecosystem in reviving the MSME sector. He said, “India’s polymers and plastics industry has the potential to become a global leader, provided we bridge the existing technology gaps through structured assessments and targeted interventions. This workshop is a step in the right direction.” He also emphasised the importance of equipping MSMEs with state-of-the-art technology and skills to meet global standards. He added, “This benchmarking study is a timely initiative to enable our industrial clusters to adopt innovation and enhance export competitiveness.”
Shri Madhukar Babu, Joint Director, Industries highlighted the initiatives of Telangana Government for MSME development and the new Industrial Policy of Telangana. He further explained, “The findings from these benchmarking studies will be helpful in devising support mechanisms for MSMEs. We should focus not only on incremental changes but also on transformational solutions,” he emphasized.
Shri Narendra Baldwa, President, Telangana and Andhra Plastic Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA) explained the initiatives of TAAPMA and appreciated the initiatives of Telangana Government for improving the performance of MSMEs through schemes like RAMP. He also said that TAAPMA will always strive to support the development of plastic industries and all the members of TAAPMA are ready to extend their full support for the success of benchmarking studies being conducted by CIPET under RAMP scheme.
Shri B Ravi, Principal Director, CIPET addressed the gathering and later gave a detailed presentation on the contribution of CIPET in the petrochemical and polymer sectors, including training, research and industry support services. He elaborated on CIPET’s national footprint and its readiness to partner with MSMEs and State agencies to promote technology adoption and skill development. “CIPET is committed to bridging the technology gaps and nurturing talents that meet the demands of the dynamic global market,” he said.
The workshop included technical sessions that covered the following:
Benchmarking technology utilization methods
Gaps in machinery, process automation and quality standards
Opportunities for modernization of MSMEs using government schemes
Best practices in circular economy and green manufacturing
A brainstorming session was also held during the event in which the participating MSMEs and dignitaries discussed the emerging needs of the plastics and allied sector. The key points that emerged were the need for smart manufacturing technology for advanced tooling solutions, need for common facility centre for existing and new entrepreneurs to avail the facility at low cost.
Eminent industrialists, TAAPMA Chairman Narendra Baldwa, Secretary Kamlesh Gupta, Joint Secretaries Arun Lahoti and Kishore Kumar, Past Chairman Prem Kankaria, Plastmeet Committee Chairman Nitin Sanghi, Managing Committee members Sanjeev Jain and Rajesh Kumar, consultants from state project implementation unit GT Bharat LLP and other representatives from TGTPC, CITD, Aleap, Wehub, Rich attended the event.
